When you have a headache, you may call it just that, or use words such as throbbing or pounding to describe how it feels. Informants from Yorkshire exclaimed, ‘my scalp’s rattling!’ to describe a headache. Words used to describe chapped skin, stomach ache and boils were also shared by informants and recorded on word maps.
