East Wind
(Sky)
“As a city dweller I often long for more connection with our natural environment. I am intrigued by generations past who had vast knowledge of reading the skies, plants and animals around them, for clues to the weather. The Survey sought out people who lived their whole lives in one place, often working with the landscape. These people got to know its signs well, moving through the seasons year after year. I hoped to reflect something of this using the book, a container of knowledge, as a metaphor for passing through the year and the wealth of understanding of ‘reading’ the skies.”
