Emily says

29.5 days

(Moon)

“The archive documents weatherlore sayings about the moon. The collage is inspired by these, and the experience of living in the landscape, month by month, repeating the cycle of 29.5 days over a lifetime. It uses pages from the fieldworkers’ response books for questions around weather words.

‘Far ring, near rain, near ring, fine weather’

‘If the moon’s hoins are clearly defined there’ll be frost on mind.’

(hoins up = no rain that quarter)

“It’s going to be wild weather – there’s a ring around the moon”

“There’s a great circle round the moon, we’re going to have some bad weather

“The moon’s wading – it’s going to be wild”

“Harvest moon – a full moon at harvest time in September is called harvest moon. It lasts for 3 nights, like most moons, and harvests keep working through.’

“If the halo round the moon is small the weather will be good, if large the weather will be bad.”
